Comic: Narcosis the Cat goes Sci-Fi – 2010

b3-narkoosi-kissa-2010

“Narcosis the Cat is 5 billion years old. She is already very old and tired…”

“Yet Narcosis the Cat always reincarnates again!”

A spoof on Kubrick‘s 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) which is my all-time favorite film in addition to f.ex. Tarkovsky‘s Stalker (1979). I love the scene in 2001 with the light white room and the stargate preceding it. It really feels like entering a whole new another world and universe.

Apokryfia sketch book series 2009–

books2-2016-flat

Here are my Apokryfia sketch books where this website and blog were originally inspired from and based on. This is where my artistic ideas often derive from.

These are the first 10 books (3.4.2009 – 26.12.2011) and I’m currently (September 2016) on the 13th book. There are currently over 1500 pages of sketches and illustrations.

The books are named after the Greek alphabet from Alpha to Omega. The vignette symbols make some kind of reference in the contents of each book. There is also a box carrying the first 12 issues.

Etching: A Stream of Mirages (2006)

etsaus1

Etching 24×12 cm (Kangastusten virta in Finnish). 6 made with varying colors (some are black and white). This scene is from an upcoming Narcosis the Cat Meets the Flapsticks comic book story Flapsticks in the Land of the Pyramids. It tells about the legend of a Horse of the Troika three giant horses worshipped by the people of Ee-Gypt.

In this artwork the birds from top center gradually transform into mountains and finally as flying dragons. The labyrinth on top right symbolizes the sun. “Corner sun” is my favorite motif in naive works.

Labyrinths and dungeons are one of my favorite themes  both in real life. We like to find caves and tunnels and wander in them with my friend Kriku who also does f.ex. psychedelic art.

Graphic Art: Swan Mirror (2008)

The final A4 illustration and original 2008 pencil sketch, which was finally to be an etching aquatint graphic work (2009). It is 21×31 cm and there are about 10 prints with slightly different tones.

This scene depicts a story set in the Springbringer fantasy world.

The layout construction was inspired by the legendary Ultima II: Revenge of the Enchantress (1982) role-playing game box’s panoramic artwork (the game was released by Sierra On-Line Inc. / SierraVenture).

Another graphic print of Swan Mirror (Proof Series ][) on a more reddish tone than the one above which is more yellow.

Lithograph: A Land of Shadows (2009)

varjojenmaa varjojenmaa2

Pencil sketch 21x29cm, Varjojen maa in Finnish. Final sketch above right and below the lithograph proof. The original drawing has a psychedelic concept of a giant swan creature with legs and huge sharp nails. The final fantasy scene has a curious flower-like deer-faced giant meeting a black swan on a dried-out sea bottom.

This is part of the Springbringer fantasy world.
