Painting: Fire Lion (2006)
Color on paper, 38×46 cm. Inspired by the stone lion statues in the castle of Mustio near Lohja, Finland.
Pastel: Artist at Work (2006)
Mixed technique on paper, 57×39 cm. I made this on croquis live modelling lessons at Västra Nylands Folkhögskola art school. Everything seen in the work was for real in the class room but interpreted here through “cubistic” and surreal eyes. For example the “cave drawings” were steel wire figures.
Character: Avalkis
Avalkis is an animal with the features of a deer and a dragon from my Springbringer fantasy world. The first sketch was drawn in a forest. I often find animals, creatures and beings in tree branches, stumps, leaves, clouds, puddles of water—in the fractals of nature and other random visual formations.
The colored one is is a pastel drawing. This is kind of a self-portrait in a way and my alias is Avalkis which I’m using as an artist name in certain publications such as music.
Drawing: Bull Fractal (2008)
A psychedelic bull constructed out of fire, The Sprite of Spring and a feminine duck meet in a whirlpool of fractal. Can you see the Duck and the Bull? There is also a grand piano (“flyygeli” in Finnish) keyboard-headed slug with a moustache.
Pen 70×50 cm. I find animals, creatures, beings and characters in clouds, puddles, tree branches, leaves, stumps… —in the fractals of nature and other random visual formations. Although in this case this is purely my imagination and subconsciousness on a blank piece of paper basically without any outer stimulation.
Comic: Inner Light (2011)
Metamorphosis is one of my reoccurring themes. Here a horse-like creature transforms into Generic Animal and finds his “inner light”. From the Apokryfia sketch books #8 Theta and #9 Iota.
Drawing: Furnica (1999)
Pablo Picasso‘s Guernica (1938) is one of my all-time favorite paintings.
I have made tons of pastiches and studies on it. Here is the very first from 1999: Furnica, pencil on parchment paper.
